Vuttara stores ordinary browser data locally, does not currently operate account-based Sync, has no advertising or marketing email, and does not automatically upload telemetry or crash reports.
1. Who we are
Vuttara is an open-source Windows web browser developed and distributed by Ward Reynolds in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In this Privacy Policy, “Vuttara,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Ward Reynolds in connection with the official Vuttara software, the Vuttara website, official downloads and updates, and support communications.
Privacy contact: privacy@nuttabuttainaa.com. Public contact location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
2. Scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how personal information is handled when you use the official Vuttara desktop application, visit www.nuttabuttainaa.com/vuttara, download Vuttara from an official release location, or contact us for support.
Vuttara is a browser that can access third-party websites and services. Those third parties control their own collection, use, disclosure, retention, and security practices. Their privacy policies apply when you use their websites or services.
3. Local-first browser data
Vuttara is designed so that ordinary browser information is stored locally on the computer and within the selected Vuttara profile. Depending on the features you use, local information may include browsing history, bookmarks, open and recently closed tabs, session-recovery information, download records, settings, site permissions, cookies and site storage, form information, saved usernames and passwords, workspaces, tab groups, containers, notes, installed web-app records, reading-list items, local security events, crash diagnostics, and profile metadata.
Vuttara does not automatically send this ordinary local browser information to Ward Reynolds or to a Vuttara-operated server. You control local deletion through Vuttara’s privacy settings, profile tools, and browsing-data controls. Removing Vuttara may not remove the application-data folder unless you delete it separately or use a removal option that expressly deletes profile data.
4. Passwords, credentials, and encryption
When password saving is enabled, Vuttara stores saved credentials locally and uses Electron and Windows operating-system-backed encryption when that protection is available. Vuttara cannot guarantee that a device is secure if Windows, the user account, the device, or another program has been compromised.
You are responsible for controlling access to your Windows account, using appropriate device security, maintaining backups where appropriate, and deciding whether to save credentials in Vuttara.
5. Private, guest, container, and profile browsing
Private browsing is intended to keep private-tab history and session information out of normal history and session recovery. Private browsing does not make you anonymous to websites, internet providers, network administrators, employers, schools, governments, malware, or other parties that can observe network or device activity.
Guest profiles are intended to be temporary. Profiles and containers are designed to separate selected local browsing information, but no software isolation mechanism is guaranteed to prevent every leak, operating-system exposure, extension behaviour, or website tracking technique.
6. Vuttara Sync status
Account-based Vuttara Sync is not currently live. Vuttara does not currently operate a public account-sync endpoint and does not invite users to submit sync account credentials. The official browser interface identifies account-based sync as coming soon.
Vuttara includes an optional advanced encrypted-folder workflow that can write an encrypted sync file to a folder selected by the user, including a local folder, removable drive, network location, or third-party cloud-synced folder. The operator of any selected storage location may process the encrypted file and associated metadata under its own terms and privacy policy.
Before account-based Vuttara Sync is launched, this Privacy Policy will be updated to describe the live endpoint, account information, hosting and service providers, retention, deletion, device management, security design, cross-border processing, and user choices. A revised effective date and document version will be published.
7. Website and download information
The Vuttara website does not currently include third-party advertising, behavioural advertising, or third-party analytics scripts. The website and downloads may be delivered using infrastructure operated by Cloudflare and GitHub. Those providers may automatically process standard network and security information such as IP address, request time, requested path, user-agent information, referrer information, diagnostic data, and security signals under their own policies.
When Vuttara checks for updates or downloads an update from GitHub Releases, GitHub and network intermediaries may receive standard request information. Vuttara uses that connection to locate, download, and verify official release information and update files.
8. Search, suggestions, websites, and network requests
When you type an address, search, or other content and submit it, Vuttara sends the request to the destination, search provider, or service you selected. Optional search suggestions or prediction features may send partial input to the configured provider when enabled. Vuttara’s privacy controls allow you to change relevant settings, but third-party providers determine how they handle requests they receive.
Websites can request permissions such as camera, microphone, location, notifications, clipboard access, pop-ups, or fullscreen. Vuttara provides permission controls, but information you choose to provide to a website is handled by that website.
9. Support communications
If you email privacy@nuttabuttainaa.com or otherwise contact official Vuttara support, we receive the information you provide, which may include your email address, name, message, attachments, Vuttara version, Windows version, diagnostic information, and any other details you choose to send.
Support communications are used to respond, investigate issues, protect Vuttara and its users, document fixes, and meet legal obligations. Do not send passwords, recovery keys, payment-card information, government identifiers, or unrelated sensitive information. Support records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for these purposes, normally no longer than 24 months after the matter is resolved unless a longer period is required for security, legal, dispute, or record-keeping reasons.
10. Crash and security diagnostics
Vuttara can create local crash records, security events, checksums, and diagnostic or recovery reports. These records remain local unless you choose to export or share them. Before sharing a report, review it for URLs, paths, device names, account names, or other information you do not wish to disclose.
Vuttara does not currently operate automatic crash-report uploading or telemetry collection for the official browser build.
11. How we use and disclose personal information
Personal information received through the website, official downloads, or support is used only for reasonable purposes connected with operating, securing, supporting, improving, and distributing Vuttara; responding to requests; preventing abuse; enforcing applicable terms; and complying with law.
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not send marketing or promotional email. Information may be disclosed to infrastructure or service providers where necessary to operate the website, distribute releases, secure services, or handle email; when you direct or consent to the disclosure; to investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents; to protect legal rights or safety; or when required or permitted by law.
12. Retention and deletion
Local browser data remains on your device until it is cleared, overwritten, removed by profile or private-browsing behaviour, deleted by you, or affected by device or operating-system processes. Downloaded files are separate from Vuttara’s download-history list and are not necessarily deleted when download history is cleared.
Website infrastructure logs are retained according to the applicable provider’s settings and policies. Support and privacy correspondence is retained as described above. We delete or anonymize personal information under our control when it is no longer reasonably required, subject to legal, security, backup, and dispute-related needs.
13. Security safeguards
We use safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information under our control, including local-first design, operating-system-backed encryption where available, encrypted update transport, release-integrity checks, access controls for official accounts, and reasonable administrative practices. No browser, computer, network, encryption method, storage provider, or transmission is completely secure. You use Vuttara and third-party websites at your own security risk.
14. Cross-border processing
Cloudflare, GitHub, email providers, websites you visit, search providers, and other services may process information outside Alberta or Canada, including in the United States or other jurisdictions. Information processed elsewhere may be subject to the laws and lawful-access rules of those jurisdictions.
15. Children and teenagers
Vuttara is intended for users aged 13 and older. A user who is under the age of majority where they live must use Vuttara with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian. Vuttara is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly operate an account service that collects personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child under 13 has sent personal information to official Vuttara support or through the Vuttara website, contact privacy@nuttabuttainaa.com so the matter can be reviewed and the information deleted where appropriate.
16. Your choices and privacy rights
Vuttara provides controls to clear browsing information, manage permissions, disable optional features, use private or guest browsing, manage profiles, and remove saved credentials. You may also request access to or correction of personal information held by Ward Reynolds, withdraw consent where applicable and subject to legal or operational limits, or ask a privacy question by emailing privacy@nuttabuttainaa.com.
We may need to verify identity before providing access to personal information. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may have the right to contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or another applicable privacy regulator.
17. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when Vuttara features, hosted services, providers, laws, or practices change. Material changes will be identified by a new “Last updated” date and document version. When a change requires a new choice or consent, Vuttara will provide an appropriate notice or acceptance process.
